November 18-20, 2016–Focus on the Masters is a non-profit art appreciation program based in Ventura County that documents, preserves, and presents the works and lives of accomplished contemporary artists.
Focus on the Masters also runs The Gift Shop, located behind City Hall in Ventura. As part of a fundraising effort, fine craft and art works from local artists and organizations were included in the gift shop with some of the proceeds going toward Focus on the Masters’ programming.
Knitting in Recovery was one of the organizations included in The Gift Shop. Our clients were very excited to show and sell their work.
A wonderful woman knit this beautiful chenille blanket and donated to one of our Fundraisers for Project Understanding. The lucky and very happy recipient was our very own crocheter, who had been eyeing it all evening long! A lot of LOVE in that Blanket!
Another wonderful Fundraising Event with Project Understanding and First Friday in Ventura, California. We have knitters and crocheters ranging from 8 – 60 years old. They are fabulous, and what a special community we have created with our coming together to knit and crochets. Healing, Smiles, Joy, Laughter all around. And we get to share our beautiful work, raise funds for Project Understanding and ourselves at the same time!
We had such a fabulous time knitting and crocheting for Project Understanding’s Easter Fundraiser. They did AMAZING and raised money for the Program as well for themselves!
I have had the privilege of watching my dear friend Gillian walk through breast cancer with such dignity and grace. Her forever shining optimism in the midst of all the fear and all the pain was beautiful to watch up close. She taught me so much about courage and attitude. It’s all about your own thoughts and how you can direct them towards acceptance and healing. She did what needed to be done, one step at a time, and I am proud to say she is doing marvelously. This weekend she, Lisa, Chris and Nancy (not in photo) will be walking for breast cancer awareness……39 miles.
Our Tuesday Knitting Group Women in Recovery – Knitting for Recovery, “One Stitch at a Time” decided we wanted to do a fundraiser for the girls walking. We finished over 100 knitted washcloths and set up a booth at the annual Meiners Oaks Festival.
We had knitted washcloths and rubber duckies swimming around to the delight of everyone in our little community. It’s all the rage now:-) People were buying for gifts and for themselves. I think everyone owns one, even the men…… and they own them proudly……
Thank You to all the knitters who with joy knitted their little hearts out to help a friend.
Happy Walking Girls……”One Step at a Time”
